Aimee Bessada is A Dream, A Coast. Bouncing in between the genres of folk pop, grunge and beach-wave, the music of A Dream, A Coast encapsulates the many musical influences that have shaped Bessada’s style, while remaining distinctly fresh and cohesive. The music is driven rhythmically, while also featuring stand-out guitar riffs delivered by Bessada’s signature tone.
The influences of Elliot Smith, The Beach Boys as well as Fleetwood Mac and Rilo Kiley are laced within the architecture of the songs. Buckingham-esque guitar solos meet chord progressions injected with 90s grunge, with a heavy emphasis on Weezer’s Blue Album and the Smiths.
Lyrically, A Dream, A Coast speaks to the confusion of self, and while the music is often upbeat, the songs contain some darker undertones that keep it all grounded. Struggles with pursuit of success, seasonal depression and of course the pitfalls of love are all subjects within the material, but often approached with a slightly humorous twist and always strikingly self-aware. In “Empty Beaches” where the narrator sings of the stifling boredom of the repetition of days even in the midst of a lazy summer, or in the heart-breaking apology of “Just Like Love” that sounds like the final slow-dance at a 60’s high school prom.
Aimee herself has toured the world with many bands and artists. She has played lead guitar for Hunter Valentine and Dance Yourself to Death. She has also opened for Sia, CSS and Cyndi Lauper and is currently working with Linda Perry, who she was discovered by on the VH1 show, The Linda Perry Project
